Man arrested for having sex with women (using his mind)
The mind may be a powerful tool, but not usually one that can land you in jail. However, a man in Zimbabwe has recently found himself in trouble with the authorities after taking the phrase ‘sex on the brain’ to new extremes.
Clifford Mavete, 27, was arrested earlier this month after being caught practicing a type of black magic called ‘mubobobo’ on a woman at a bus terminal in Zvishavane, Zimbabwe. While finding a concrete definition of the term online proves difficult, the strange act seems to be a type of voodoo spell with which a man can be intimate with a woman using only his mind, and without any physical contact.
A popular newspaper in the area, The Chronicle, reported that rank marshals became suspicious of Mavete “after noticing the man’s movements” and then decided to step in on his imaginative frisky escapades. Disappointingly there are no descriptions of what exactly these ‘movements’ consisted of or, more importantly, how obvious the man was being. However, the Bulawayo Chronicle reported that Mavete was seen “sweating and exhibiting an expression synonymous with that of a person engaging in sex while his eyes were glued at the woman who was standing in front of him.”
More genuinely creepy though is that, according to a witness, the middle-age victim reportedly “told the people who had gathered that she was having some unusual funny feelings in her private parts.” Perhaps the whole situation could have gone a little better if the man had initiated some kind of mental foreplay beforehand, leading the poor lady through a brief dream of candlelit dinners and rose petal-scattered beds, before jumping straight into intimacy.
Could you imagine mubobobo existing in the Western world? Taking us to a stage where the sexually repressed, leering, perspiring drunkard could be elevated to a mystical beholder of witchcraft-esque powers? Hopefully not. Even more importantly, do you think arresting a man whose crime quite likely goes no further than being entirely in his head is correct? Perhaps causing the implementation of a new type of thought-police roaming back alleys. If we started regulating fantasising about women to this extent, there is a good chance that my love of Drew Barrymore would have landed me in Alcatraz by now. I joke.
I lastly imagine that this type of power in the hands of filthy-minded Americans would undoubtedly lead to some pretty intense, two-sided (albeit boring viewing), horror movie type pornography that would be one mind-blowing new type of fetishism. They’d probably give it some terrifying name like ‘Brain Sex’. In true Halloween style I leave you with this clip from David Cronenberg’s classic Scanners – showing exactly why couples should not go practicing their mubobobo anytime soon.
