How would you like to have your very own Captain America to snuggle with at night?
You may or may not be aware of ‘love pillows’, full body-size pillows that you can cuddle if you’re lonely and will probably never find love. They’re hugely popular in Japan, where they’re known as ‘dakimakura‘, and you can usually find them decorated with girls from popular animé, in various states of (un)dress.
Your reaction is probably something along the lines of “well, Japan is full of guys who perv on underage cartoon girls, we knew this already”, and you might be right about that, but there’s a new trend in love pillows which might surprise you.
They’re swiftly gaining popularity in the West, and not among men. Bizarrely, it’s female fans of various male characters who are ordering these pillows. They range from mildly disturbing to hilarious, and I can’t imagine that anyone would actually be shameless enough to buy them, but clearly I’m wrong.
So if you’ve ever wanted to be able to sleep with Batman, or Thor, you’re in luck. And, if you’re a fan of Benedict Cumberbatch, you’ll have to choose whether you love Sherlock or Khan better, because they have both. Also, characters from The Hobbit, Doctor Who and Supernatural.
You might be confused as to the seemingly random choice of franchises, but the truth is this actually isn’t that random. They’re all extremely popular with women and teenage girls, and a big part of that popularity comes from the ‘sexy’ male characters. Women are actually just as capable of being pervy weirdos as men are, and for whatever reason people are only starting to realise this now.
You can order quite a few of the pillow cases (the pillows themselves I suppose you’ll have to get separately and avoid telling the cashier what they’re for) here. They’re $60, but for some girls I suppose the opportunity to cuddle up to Loki at night is priceless.
