What we’ve all been waiting for – now you can drink your own face! Kind of.
In an attempt to outdo (piss off) big-time coffee chains (begins with S, ends with Bucks), a coffee shop in Taiwan, Let’s Café, have launched an innovative new marketing strategy to lure customers into supporting smaller cafés. Basically, instead of writing your name on the side of a cup (which anyone can do, quite frankly) Let’s Café will actually print your face, or whatever the hell you want, onto your coffee. Your actual face. Onto your coffee.
Customers simply upload an image from their mobile and the innovative little coffee printer will reproduce the photo of choice with coffee or cocoa powder. And if you really want to go all out, you can add your wording of choice too, like ‘My lovely kitty’ or ‘I am yours’. Great touch, guys. (Where did that cat come from?).
But will this new marketing strategy poison Let’s Café customers with stomach infections and narcissistic intentions? Either way, it’s a nice little addition for fans of Instagram, coffee, Vine, their own face and that new Instagram-video thing. We’re looking forward to being able to have Jeremy Kyle streamed onto our daily morning beverage. Who needs to drink their coffee anyway?

For those completely in the dark, edible ink is nothing new. There have already been innovations into ‘greener’ printing using only coffee beans and water, and fantastic foam art from coffee artist and barista Kazuki Yamamoto, but enabling customers to take control of their own coffee-colour-printing seems like the kind of cunning sales technique we could get on board with. Here’s to Let’s Cafe for spreading their name one star buck at a time.
And however much you don’t understand it, it’s better than spelling our names wrong on cups.
