Contrary to popular belief, apparently students simply aren’t getting enough sex these days. Well, this is according to young entrepreneur Tom Thurlow who has set up the subtly named website ShagatUni.com. Any still confused as to exactly what the site is for should be directed to their welcome message: “Our sole purpose is to help students meet up for sex.” Can’t say it clearer than that.
Alongside this new venture Thurlow also runs several other self-descriptive sites including: DateaGamer.co.uk, DateatUni.com and DateinChelsea.com. However, what should be noted about his newest project is not only that it skips straight over the idea of dating before sex, but also that the educational elite of the country have started to take notice. Although it has only been running for 2 months, over 700 female Oxford students have already signed up (although it should be noted that its prudish rival Cambridge, is lagging behind with the lowest number of members in the country).
Now, let’s not forget that Facebook (currently with over a billion active members) spread through the Ivy League colleges of America before arriving on our shores in 2005. And mirroring America, it was initially the highest-ranking UK universities that first took it up. Could the above-mentioned stats be an indication of ShagatUni.com following a similar trend?
A minor test run of the website (a member for 2 minutes, with no photo or personal information uploaded) resulted in one ‘wink’, two private messages asking “what are you looking for on this site…?” and an offer to meet up “somewhere naughty”. It is not for the faint hearted.
Planet Ivy has requested an interview with Thurlow, the man himself, in order to find out what he wants to get out of ShagatUni.com, so watch this space.
