We don’t often feature new music (yet), but this is fresh out and essential. One of our favourite bands of the last decade, no doubt.
We’re massively relieved they’ve let that whole “Electro-Dance Kele Rock” thing blow out, and have instead thrown in a Daft Punk-esque solo in the middle. Times are changing though, guitarist Russell Lissock’s fringe looks shorter than ever.
The track aired on Radio 1, on Zane Lowe’s show, earlier this evening. The new album, ‘Four,’ will be released on August 20th, and is the follow up to their 2008 LP ‘Intimacy,’ which was met with lukewarm reviews upon release . The new album has been produced by The Mars Volta/Death Cab For Cutie producer Alex Newport.
The single will be available to download tomorrow, and will be released on a limited edition 7″ vinyl on August 13th, along with the song ‘Straight Thru Cru.’
Speaking to Lowe, Kele stated: “This song was one of the last songs that we wrote [for the new album]… We knew we had something so we kept beavering away and before we knew it, we had it.”
In what is clearly a very exciting time for the band, he added: “I’m looking forward to performing this record because I’m very proud of it” but also admitted there was “some trepidation when I look at my schedule and it’s already booked up until summer next year!”
Bloc Party will be touring the UK in October. The tour begins at Newcastle’s O2 Academy on October 12 and finishes October 20, with the band playing in Cambridge at the Corn Exchange. The tour will also include gigs in Southampton, Leeds, Birmingham, Glasgow, Bristol and Manchester. Will you be going? What do you think of the return of Bloc Party?
