Joey Barton speaks in weird French accent. Zoot alors! etc [video]

Footballer Joey Barton is widely known for his bad-boy behaviour, but after making his debut for new club Marseille, he’s attracted attention for something a little different: speaking in a bizarre French accent. In the post-match press conference, rather than talking in his usual Scouse tones, he decided to show off his Inspector Clouseau impression. Whether he spoke this way to help the French journalists understand him better, or simply to take le piss, we’re not really sure. But it’s certainly entertaining.

This isn’t the first example of footballers adopting dodgy accents outside of England. When former England boss Steve McClaren joined Dutch side FC Twente, he conducted the whole interview in a weird Dutch accent – not taking into account that most people in Holland speak better English than we do.
